Testimonial from Ben Hughes
I initially got involved with GVI in 2011 when I came as a volunteer to the Marine Conservation program here in Seychelles. I spent 3 months conducting marine surveys focusing on coral growth in a beautiful marine park on the doorstep of the GVI base, during which time I completed my Advanced Open Water and Coral Reef Research Diver courses as well as an EFR First Aid course. I had a wonderful time and was driven to pursue a career in marine research and conservation. GVI were instrumental in helping me onto a Divemaster Trainee program in the Seychelles following my time on the base. Since then I have worked in the dive industry and become a PADI Scuba Instructor, and after a period of travelling around and honing my skills I am delighted to say I have completed the full circle and am now working as a dive officer with GVI in Seychelles! GVI were so important in helping me choose a career path I love, it’s great that I can now be part of that for other volunteers that come through. I’m very excited as to what the future holds for me on base at Cap Ternay!
