Testimonial from Josie Gardner
I applied to go on the Costa Rica project after hearing about what an incredible experience my friend had had while on the South Africa project the previous year – I thought what an amazing way it would be to spend two weeks, especially in that I would be able to improve my Spanish while seeing a gorgeous part of the world and hopefully positively contributing to an arguably underprivileged community. And that really is exactly what I was able to do. The experience genuinely was one of the best I have ever had. To begin with, the staff were all unbelievably positive, grounded and infectiously happy people who caused for such an excellent atmosphere, because of which the prospect of hauling, literally, tonnes of rocks around a community seemed plausible. We spent our week of construction in El Cocal helping to build a classroom and a sport facility – whilst it was obviously enormously rewarding, we also met some wonderful people who definitely contributed to my vast appreciation of the trip. I as well feel very fortunate to have seen some spectacularly gorgeous geographical sights; the beaches, the mountains, the waterfalls and the river were all magnificent. I am so grateful for GVI facilitating the opportunity, and for the deep insight and general life experience it has given me.
