International Volunteer Programs | GVI Australia
You’ll find most of the communities we work with have a lot of respect for our international volunteer programmes. We believe that identifying the needs within a community, prioritisation of those needs and the appropriate role(s) that the international volunteer can play, should fall to the local community members.
The international volunteer can be extremely advantageous in executing projects aimed at solving community development and environmental conservation efforts. However, it is of utmost importance that in the setting up of international volunteer projects, we must trust the local people as experts, offering them support in the form of resources and at times expertise.
Before signing up for a GVI programme, speak with some of our returned volunteers, ask them about GVI’s relationship with the local people and culture.
